Yes, finally all of our prayers have been answered.Nokia phones series 3, 5 and 6 are scheduled to release in India on June 13 as said by the company itself(HMD Global).
Finally, Nokia has made a comeback in the Indian market after a long span of 4 years.
The last product of Nokia in India was the Lumia Series along with other phone series which was later sold to Microsoft in a $9 billion dollar deal in September 2013, after which Nokia was barred from entering the mobile phone market for at least 3 years according to the agreement.
So after selling their Phone business to Microsoft-Nokia focused in their other business primarily network technology. In the year 2015, a Finnish startup called HMD Global bought the Nokia brand and its rights from Microsoft.Since then there were speculations that we might see Nokia’s resurrection in the coming year.
And now in 2017 many Nokia lovers have a reason to smile as HMD Global announced the worldwide release of its much-hyped and anticipated smartphones which run on pure stock Android, not unlike the Nokia X and XL which were a nightmare for us.
The first smartphone to go on sale in India on 13 June is Nokia 3.Nokia 3 is a budget smartphone of the three phones that are scheduled to release in the month of June 2017.It’s not a metal unibody as expected but it will be a strong plastic armour as Nokia is known for its sturdy built non-destructible phones that can even derail a train (lol). The phone will sport a 5 inch IPS LCD screen with HD(720p) resolution, reliable will run on MediaTek MTK 6737 processor which is a shame as MediaTek processors aren’t know reliable. And the phone has 2GB of RAM and 16 GB onboard storage and an 8MP Camera(front and back same) and a 2650 mah battery which is just enough for a day.The phone will somewhat cost around Rs 9,500-10,000.
Let’s talk about the second phone The Nokia 5.It comes between Nokia 3 and Nokia 6.The specs of Nokia 3 and 5 are nearly the same except for the body which is aluminium shelled and camera which is a 13MP back and 8MP front and the 3000mah battery. The front physical button tells that this phone may have a fingerprint sensor. This phone will cost you around Rs 13,000.
The last phone in the pipeline is Nokia 6.Sporting a metal unibody this device as said by Nokia is the high-end device of the starting three models launching in June 2017.It comes with a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with full HD(1080p) resolution. It has 3GB RAM with 32GB storage which is expandable. The phone is equipped with a 16MP back camera and 8MP front camera.Running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor this phone is a decent performer.3000 mah battery will ensure a day’s work without a hassle.
Verdict: For Nokia to make its mark in the highly competitive Indian market flooded with many local and international players like Micromax, Samsung, Oppo, Vivo etc the people at Nokia will have to review their pricing policy which is a bit asking more than what they are giving. Although the nostalgia factor is present it won’t ensure high sales. So my suggestion to them to be a bit lenient in the pricing and work on their strengths to get an edge over their competitors. In this way, they can actually survive and flourish in this jungle.
